Our team. Most of us have been here a long time.
Tom graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science from Loyola Marymount University and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of California. He is a member of both the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
He joined Simonis Moreland Accountants Inc. as a staff accountant in 1979 and was promoted to tax manager in 1981. In 1986 he purchased the firm and it became The Donovan Company. He has practiced continuously ever since — from Newport Beach through 2008, in Irvine since, and at the current 9930 Research Drive office since October 2013.
His work spans individual, business, trust, and estate returns, with a long focus on real estate investors, healthcare professionals, and small business owners. He’s the person most clients have known the longest, and the one who picks up the phone after hours when something can’t wait.
Nicole has been with the firm since 2002. She is a Swiss-trained accountant who came to The Donovan Company after several years in industry and public practice in Switzerland; she runs the firm’s payroll work and prepares individual and business tax returns. Nicole’s upbringing across French, German, Spanish, and Italian gave her an ear for languages that has stuck with her — she may not converse as freely as she once did, but she still reads and understands all four.
Ginny joined the firm in 2003 and has run the front office since 2020. She is the first voice most clients hear, manages firm administration, and prepares returns during tax season. Before joining the firm she was the office manager for a team of financial advisors, and she brings the same calm, organized hand to the work here.
Mike is both a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the State Bar of California, with a particular focus on the Trusts and Estates section. He earned his B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. from UCLA School of Law, then spent seven years at Arthur Andersen in Los Angeles — rising to Senior Tax Manager — before twenty-five years in his own tax and estates practice. He joined The Donovan Company in 2017 and reviews complex returns and estate work.
Carlos is an Enrolled Agent who joined the firm in late 2024 after several years preparing federal and state returns for individuals and business entities, with a particular focus on real estate clients. He prepares individual, partnership, and corporate returns and works with clients on multi-state filings.
David is a Certified Public Accountant who joined the firm in 2026 after roughly fifteen years in public accounting, including senior tax roles at Armanino and Haskell & White. He earned bachelor’s degrees in both Accountancy and Finance from California State University, Long Beach.
David has extensive experience with S corporations, partnerships, and high-net-worth individuals — including multi-state returns, tiered partnerships, 1031 exchanges, and pass-through entity tax (AB 150) planning. He prepares quarterly estimates and year-end projections for pass-through entities and their owners, and conducts the technical research behind complex positions.
